Van der Wiel on target?

A lot has been said about Chelsea and Manchester City’s alleged tussle to sign Real Madrid’s Kaka, but not so much about the pair battling it out for Dutch international Gregory van der Wiel.

It was revealed by talkSPORT last month that Ajax faced a fight to keep hold of their 22-year-old right-back following interest from the Premier League duo, but both the Blues and the Citizens are expected to firm up their interest in the summer.

The rumour could have some weight behind it as Frank Arnesen was quoted in Ajax Life midway through January stating that the Stamford Bridge club were interested in the player, but as a summer target, as a centre back was the higher priority at the time in the absence of the injured Alex.
