Defender upbeat after scoring in the 2-0 win over Leverkusen

David Luiz has described his joy after scoring for Chelsea in his first appearance of the season against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.

The defender sensationally put the Blues in the lead after 67 minutes in the 2-0 win in the UEFA Champions League for his third goal for the club since joining from Benfica last season.

It was also the first time the Brazilian had made a Champions League appearance for the Stamford Bridge outfit after being ineligible to feature in the competition last term.

Luiz took John Terry's place in the team after the England centre-back was rested for the fixture.

Nice goal

He told the club's official website: "It was good. It is a long time I didn't play and this game I played 75 minutes and it is good for me, and it is important inside my body that I came back for the game. My leg is good, it is normal.

"It was a nice goal. In training we shoot with the strikers.

"Now I have three goals at Stamford Bridge and I am very happy. I love the atmosphere here, the support, and all the time the players are together and this is of big importance."

Fernando Torres, despite not scoring, had a role in both of the goals that Chelsea scored and Luiz had praise for the striker.

He said: "Fernando had a very good game, two assists, and it is difficult for him because the people all the time speak about Fernando. It is difficult for one guy, big pressure in the head, but Fernando is a good guy and I know this season he will score many, many goals.

'Now we play a big game against Man United which has big players with good performances at the beginning of the season. It is a big game but we can prepare this week for it and I know on Sunday we will have a good game.'
