BackChelsea youngster Fabio Borini appears to be on his way back to Italy as Parma are close to signing the striker on a Bosman move, sporting director Pietro Leonardi has revealed.
The Serie A side are eager to add some depth to their attack and see the 20-year-old as the perfect signing. They were previously close to signing the Italy under-21 starlet in the January transfer window, but the move eventually fell through.
However, Leonardi is confident that an agreement can be reached on this occasion, telling Sky Sport: "We are very close to completing the transfer of Borini. It is only a matter of details before we wrap up the deal."
Borini is a product of the Bologna youth academy and moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2007. He failed to secure regular first team football at Stamford Bridge, however, and was sent out on loan to Swansea City for the last three months of the season, where his goals helped the Welsh side gain promotion to the Premier League.
His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer, meaning that he is available on a free transfer.
