BackMarseille are interested in re-signing Didier Drogba - but only if the club can afford to meet the Ivorian striker's wage demands.
Drogba starred for OM during his single season at the Velodrome before departing for Chelsea in a £24million move in 2004.
The 33-year-old has a year remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and it is not yet known if he is part of new Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas' plans.
Marseille president Vincent Labrune is confident the club could afford the transfer fee for Drogba, but admits meeting his salary demands may prove more difficult as players will have to be sold to make way.
"The question is whether in terms of salary, I do not mean the transfer, Marseille have the means for four years to pay Didier Drogba," Labrune told La Provence newspaper.
"I answer 'yes'. But we cannot afford 11 Didier Drogbas. So is it possible? Yes, but in thecase of departures."
Marseille return for the Ivorian?

kimwesky The worst mistake of the century, drogba is an asset in chelsea, and all other strikers are getting of age,the likes of anelka so abramovich must think straight.

Baba1 why not maintain the drogba rather than selling him out, who can immediately fit into the vacuum if he leaves? lets wise up and re-think
the 29-06-2011 at 12:41
CJ360 Its only a mistake to do away with the only realistic match maker at The Bridge. Whom do we have, that we'll go out with certainty that he can score or open up defenses like Drogba? Who?
the 29-06-2011 at 12:30
motsoe the problem is that ever since we signed torres there has been so much speculation on drogbas future but i believe the ivorian still has a lot to offer chelsea, this has bn evident since he came to the bridge, personally i'lld like him to stay. What if torres has another dismall season, will that mean we are finished coz we can't rely on midfilders to score goals 4 us
the 29-06-2011 at 11:08
dollarhenry Chelsea should not make any mistake about Didier, they should be careful, players like that should not be jack pot, he is already a legend, no matter how we see it, just like JT and Lamps.
