DIDIER DROGBA, Cesc Fabregas and Asamoah Gyan have been shortlisted for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award.

The trio fly the flag for the Premier League as NO English players made the 23-man list of nominees.

Chelsea ace Drogba and Sunderland striker Gyan feature alongside the likes of Inter Milan quartet Samuel Eto'o, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Wesley Sneijder.

And Arsenal skipper Fabregas is joined by Spain team-mates Xavi, Carles Puyol and David Villa in the running for the newly-merged award.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is the reigning Ballon d'Or winner and FIFA World Player of the Year.

But the honours have been brought together to form the FIFA Ballon d'Or — and Messi is again in the running to lift the title in Zurich on January 10.

Wise

Wise agree, he cannot be a contender although he would deserve it.. let's hope we can win the Champions with his goals this year.. then he may definitely be awarded in 2011
