BackSpurs chairman Daniel Levy has told Luka Modric he will not sell him this summer under any circumstances.
Levy was outraged on Wednesday by Chelsea's initial £22million opening bid for the midfielder - an offer that was rejected out of hand and branded "ridiculous" by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.
Spurs are now braced for a more serious offers from Stamford Bridge and potentially from Manchester United, who may feel they have to come to the table now the Blues have effectively fired the starting pistol on the race to grab the Croatian schemer.
Chelsea are likely to only go up to around £25m in their next move - far short of the absolute minimum valuation that might tempt Spurs into even considering listening to offers.
