Chelsea have been linked with a move for Newcastle's Ivorian international Cheik Tiote.

The 25-year old was considered one of the finds of the season last year when the Magpies snapped him up for £3.5million from Dutch outfit FC Twente.

Now the touch tackling midfielder has been identified as a possible replacement for Michael Essien who has again suffered a knee injury keeping him out of action for up to six months.

Tiote was a favourite of former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti who was linked with a move for the £12million rated midfielder according to the Mirror.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee for Genk goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, which is believed to be in the region of ?6 million (about £5.2m), according to De Standaard.
Talks took place in London on Tuesday, the fee was agreed and now Chelsea need to agree personal terms with the player, who is set to return to Genk on-loan for one season.

Holland defender Gregory van der Wiel claims the rumours linking him with a move away from Ajax are false.

The £9million-rated 23-year-old is thought to be wanted by new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, while Manchester City are also reported to be considering a bid.

Van der Wiel, who featured in the 2010 World Cup final, would represent a youthful replacement for the likes of Paulo Ferreiraand Jose Bosingwa in Chelsea's ageing squad.

But with two years remaining on his club contract, the Dutchman is focusing on his career with Ajax and Holland's Euro 2012 campaign.

"It's just rumours," Van der Wiel told Onside.dk. "There are always a lot of rumours about me and none of it is true.
