Chelsea are believed to be one of five clubs who have offered £40.3million for Santos wonderkid Neymar.
That is the figure that would trigger a release clause in the 19-year-old's contract and the Blues along with Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Russian side side Anzhi Makhachkala are thought to have matched it.
Chelsea have been tracking the player for a while and it was thought their main competition would come from Real. However City and Barca are also in the running and a bidding war could be on the cards which would in turn push the price up.
Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro says the club are reluctant to sell but has revealed all five clubs have been given permission to speak to the player.
"We don't want to sell the player, but of course there is a release clause in his contract that can be paid and five European clubs have offered to match the clause," he told ESPN Brasil.
"I cannot name them because there is an agreement between Santos and the clubs, but they are the most important European clubs. They have asked to speak to the player and obviously we've allowed them to."
